All our blankets are designed and woven by Southern Africans. The Thula Tula mill, is the oldest blanket manufacturer in South Africa, established in 1953 in Randfontein, just west of Johannesburg. It is a 4th generation, locally-owned, family business. The mill is the exclusive manufacturer of Basotho Heritage Blankets, woven with the blessing of the Basotho Nation.

All our blankets are sustainably and ethically woven in South Africa using unionized labor. They are the industry leader in utilizing low-impact and socially responsible practices and are adherent to, and proudly exceed, the most stringent worker-friendly regulations in the world.

Our mill maintains regular BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) audits. All Cotton is sourced from a local gin, and they are also a vital supporter of the local cotton industry. All microfiber raw material is sourced from ethically certified European manufacturers.

We take full accountability in running the mill ethically and transparently, with rigorous, fair labor, health, and safety procedures. The longest-serving employee has been at the Mill for 48 years. In short, people love working here.

AGOA (African Growth and Opportunities Act) fully supports and certifies Our Mill. They can also issue Eur 1 Certificates for European exporting, only certified to the finest European and American importers.
